Congratulations to the Benedictine Monks, Rostrevor

Together with the people of the Diocese of Dromore, Bp Philip Boyce, gives thanks to God with the Benedictine Monks in Rostrevor for the new status as an Abbey, bestowed on Saturday 9th March, 2019 by the Abbot General of the Congregation of Our Lady of Monte Oliveto. Congratulations also to Dom Mark Ephrem Nolan who becomes its first Abbot.

The Benedictine Community arrived in Northern Ireland from the Abbey of Bec in France in January 1998 in response to a call addressed by the Church to monasteries of contemplative life to engage themselves in the mission of spiritual ecumenism, rooted in prayer, conversion of heart and charity, in those corners of the world where Christians are divided. The monks moved into their current monastery in 2004, located in the parish of Kilbroney.
