At the request of Pope Francis, the Bishops of Ireland have designated the First Friday of Lent as a National Day of Prayer for survivors and victims of abuse. This year the Day of Prayer will take place on Friday, 19 February. In 2019 we introduced a Candle and Prayer of Atonement as part of this day.
In a recent letter to the people of the Diocese, Archbishop Eamon states, “I would be grateful if, bearing in mind the current Covid-19 restrictions, all parishes and religious communities could organise their own service or moment of prayer. I encourage you to light again the Candle of Atonement and include a prayer for victims on this day.”
A Rite of Blessing and Dedication of the Candle of Atonement is included with this message.
Please see the local parish websites and other social media outlets for further details of the Day of Prayer across the Diocese.
