Weekend of Prayer for the Protection of the Unborn
Dear People of the Diocese of Dromore
At a meeting of the Northern Bishops, it was agreed that every parish in the North would be encouraged to promote the following initiatives in response to the proposed introduction of legislation by Westminster on 21 October, allowing for unregulated abortion in Northern Ireland. These initiatives were highlighted in the recent joint statement by the Church Leaders in Ireland.
- In their recent joint statement, the Church leaders of Ireland have called for the weekend of 12-13 October to be dedicated to prayer for the protection of the unborn in our society and for women facing difficult and challenging pregnancies and their families. This is in response to the proposed introduction by Westminster of legislation on 21st October allowing for unregulated abortion in the North. In addition to other prayer initiatives, you may wish to say and distribute the ‘Choose Life Prayer’ of the Irish Bishops’ Conference. It is available at the web site of the Bishops’ Conference or through the following link: https://www.catholicbishops.ie/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/prayer-for-the-unborn-prayercard-web.pdf
- Please support the online petition by Baroness Nuala O’Loan calling on the Secretary of State and Members of the Northern Ireland Assembly to take action to prevent unregulated abortion being introduced to the North by Westminster on 21st October. The petition can be found online at Change.org (search for Nuala O’Loan).
- Please contact your local MLA and ask them to take action to stop the introduction of unregulated abortion to Northern Ireland by Westminster on 21st October. You can find contact details for your MLA online at www.bothlivesmatter.org/findmyMLA . You can also send a postcard to your MLA.
Thank you for your support for this important initiative at this critical time.
Most Rev Eamon Martin
