Please find below an important notice for your parish announcements this weekend 20th/21st December. It will also be published on the diocesan website. I would like it to be read out at Masses this weekend (please also publish in your bulletins and websites if possible):
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In November 2023 I wrote to let you know that the Diocese of Dromore was proceeding to sell lands at Armagh Road, Newry, including the Bishop’s House, in order to finance the liabilities of the Diocese. The decision to sell was taken in particular to enable the Diocese to meet its responsibilities for the legacy of abuse, as well as financing its ongoing safeguarding responsibilities.
This notice is to let you know that the portion of the sale which includes the Bishop’s House and its immediate curtilage, was recently completed. However, in order to remain fully compliant with its legal duties, the Diocese has requested direction from the High Court in this past week concerning its financial position. I shall inform you of the result of this request when it becomes available.
Meanwhile, please note that the Diocesan Office has now moved to rooms at The Convent, Chapel Hill, Mayobridge. The Diocesan phone number and email address remain unchanged, i.e. 028 30262444 bishop@dromorediocese.org
