International Women’s Day - 8th March
Celebrating Women in Our Diocese and Parishes – Sunday 8 March 2026
On Sunday 8 March, Dromore Diocese will mark International Women’s Day. This day gives us an opportunity to recognise and give thanks for the many women who play an essential role in the life of our Church—educators, volunteers, ministers, leaders, and those whose unseen work supports our parish every week.
"International Women’s Day is an opportunity to honour; recognise and pray for the women whose gifts enrich our parishes and communities. In a special way we give thanks for those who serve in ministry, leadership, music, safeguarding, administration, finances, volunteering, and the many unseen roles that support parish life every week." - Archbishop Eamon Martin
Parishes are invited to include prayers to mark the occasion in the Sunday Mass and to offer, where possible, an opportunity to gather together for light refreshments afterwards.
Check your local bulletin, website or social media channels for information on events in your parish.
We give thanks for their dedication, faith, and service, which enrich the life of our parish and strengthen our mission.
“The Church gives thanks for each and every woman: for mothers, for sisters, for wives; for women consecrated to God; for women dedicated to the many human beings who await the selfless and generous love of another person; for women who watch over the human persons in the family…; for women who work professionally, and who at times are burdened by a great social responsibility..” - Pope St. John Paul II
